On our "Constructivist Education" Blog we will be duscussing the Constructivist Approach and Constructivism in the context of education.
I have been following your blog for sometime... though this is my first comment here.Thought would drop by and send you this site for your opinion before I start using it with my class.
I am a teacher-educator. My first brush with constructivism was when my then four year old daughter , Priya,told me "Two, four, eight, ten are partner numbers and three, nine, seven are not partner numbers" She was helping me put the eggs in the refrigarator and she realised that four eggs could be put in pairs while seven eggs could not be put in pairs... one egg had to be left without a partner. She had formed the concept of even and odd numbers on her own. When she learnt the multiplication table of two, she showed me a tamarind leaf and said "this is the table of two. " a compound leaf like the tamarind leaf had small leaves and one could count them in pairs 2,4,6,8.... giving you the multiplication table for two. This, to me, was constructivism in action, where the mind was constructing meaning from experiences. In her case, most concepts in Mathematics or science have been formulated similarly similarly.In the process I kept constructing my own understanding of constrcutivism
